Education

There are 3 public and 2 private universities in Konya, namely Selçuk University, Necmettin Erbakan University, Konya Technical University, KTO Karatay University, and Konya Food and Agriculture University.

Konya hosts 3 medical schools: Meram Medical School, a faculty of Necmettin Erbakan University, KTO Karatay Medical School and Selçuklu Medical School, a faculty of Selçuk University.

Konya has 728 primary schools, 594 secondary schools and 374 upper secondary schools. (2019)

There are 148,795 primary school, 158,810 secondary school and 161,777 upper secondary school students in Konya. (2019)

More schools are opening in Konya for prominent sectors. Shoemaking Vocational School for Girls in Aykent Shoemakers Industrial Site, Üzümlü Defense Industriy Vocational School and Aselsan Vocational School are few of the examples.

With 253,942 university graduates, Konya is ranked 8th in Turkey. Konya also hosts 27,590 master’s degree holders (6th), 5,956 PhDs (4th) and over 100.000 university students (6th). (2020)

Konya hosts more than 5,500 academics with 1,026 of them being professors. Konya is 4th in Turkey in both of these categories. (2020)

Konya also hosts vocational schools of higher education providing a qualified workforce to various sectors.

Student number per class is 22 for primary schools, 24 for secondary schools and 18 for vocational&technic schools.

Selçuk University is the biggest university in the city with 64.000 students 23 faculties, 6 institutes, 5 higher education schools, 45 research centers and a conservatory.

KTO Karatay University has 9,000 students, 6 faculties, 3 higher education schools, 3 vocational schools, 1 institute and 4 research centers.

The other state university, Necmettin Erbakan University has 35.000 students, 20 faculties, 8 vocational schools, 4 institutes and 31 research centers.

Konya Food and Agriculture University has 1,000 students, 3 faculties, 2 institutes and 7 research centers.

Konya Technical University has 4 faculties, 1 vocational school, 1 institute and approximately 12.500 students.
