According to SATRA data, there are 12500 small, 1100 medium and 350 big enterprises throughout Turkey in shoemaking sector. 50% of these enterprises are in Istanbul. The other cities that the producers are concentrated are Izmir, Konya, Bursa, Ankara, Gaziantep, Manisa and Denizli.

In Konya, shoemaking sector employs approximately 10000-12000. When the education level of labour force is analyzed, it’s seen that 60% graduated from primary school, 25% from secondary school, 10% from high school and 5% from university and vocational schools

Konya stands out particularly in the field of men’s shoes.

Konya shoemaking sector has an organization for clustering activities. The annual capacity of Konya shoemaking sector is approximately 30 million pairs.

In order to train staff for the sector, there is footwear design department in Konya Meram Atatürk Vocational High School for girls. Besides, footwear design vocational school exists in Selcuk University.
